Study abroad




Studying abroad
is the act of a student pursuing educational opportunities in a foreign country. Typically classes taken while studying abroad award credits transferable to higher education institutions in the home country. However, students may pursue these opportunities at any age and may not require college credit. Students studying abroad may live in a dormitory or apartment with other students or with a "host family", a group of people who live in that country and agree to provide student lodging.
Length of study can range from one week, usually during a domestic break, to an academic year.
Topics of study can vary. Some students choose to study abroad in order to learn a language from native speakers. Others may take classes in their academic major in a place that allows them to expand their hands-on experience (e.g. someone who’s studying marine biology studying abroad in Jamaica or a student of sustainable development living and studying in a remote village in Senegal). Still other students may study abroad in order to explore topics within the framework of a different educational system (e.g. a student of English who goes to the United States to study American literature).



History
In the USA, the act of studying abroad originated at the University of Delaware. In 1923, Professor Raymond W. Kirkbride sent a group of 8 students to Paris, France. At the time, the concept of students studying in a different country was incredibly unconventional. Kirkbride's program was originally named the "Foreign Study Plan." For a period of time, study abroad was seen as an option primarily for foreign language students. Recently this has changed, and the scope of study abroad programs has increased greatly.

The Pull to Study Abroad is Stronger Than Ever



There are a lot of myths that surround the choice to study abroad. However, these myths have constantly been broken and the truth about studying abroad is being shown as a good move after all. There are a lot of reasons why one would like going abroad to receive a higher education. Let it be known, however, that wherever you are and whether you are rich, average, or poor, there is no stopping you to go abroad to study.



When you study abroad you expose yourself to a new and enriching environment, far more than you can interpret within the four walls of a classroom. You allow yourself to grow personally. At the end of the experience, many foreign students have claimed that they have become more mature and more intelligent. When you thrust yourself into a new place all by yourself, you have no other choice but to grow and become independent. You are exposed to new people, a new culture, that will help embody your success in the future.



When you go off studying abroad, you do not clearly know what lies in wait for you. However, by deciding to push through with the decision, you know that you are going to expose yourself to a newer perspective of seeing world affairs. The ways of one country does not run in the same way as yours. You will see and experience a new government, handling national situations completely different from yours back home. You will see your home and all other countries in a different light and standing from a different perspective. You will grow with an open mind, one that has a broad and deep view of the happenings of the world around him.




One more reason, why the prospect to study abroad has been pulling greater students than before is the possibility of an enhanced career. With a background in international studies and a hands-on experience on world affairs, companies will not have second thoughts on hiring you for a job. Many companies would gladly prioritize a graduate from a foreign school to take part in their business because they know that these students possess excellent second-language skills or more, easily adapts and is flexible to changes and differences.




At the end of the line, it is up to you whether you want to go and study in a foreign land. You have to assess your reasons for going there and should be prepared that you are bound to experience a different educational system and cultural treatment than what you are receiving now. Think of your future and when it comes to study abroad, there is no denying that your future will shine brighter than ever.

What to Pack When You are About to Study Abroad





The idea of international students is becoming more popular as the years pass by. Now, there are hundreds of thousands of students globally who leave their home countries to go to another to earn undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Many students aim to study abroad due to several reasons.


First, such foreign students feel the excitement of going to a different environment. Because they cannot travel and stay in another country, being a student is a good enough reason to stay abroad, as students abroad have the times of their lives. They are able to party and act independently despite their need to do homework and study for forthcoming examinations.
If you are aiming to be an international student, you should initially take note of the things you should bring with you. Because going abroad to study is like any form of offshore travelling, you will have to prepare and pack your baggage. Here are some tips you should take note of if you are preparing to pack your things prior to a trip abroad to study.


- Make sure your baggage is huge and spacious enough to accommodate the things and items you need to take with you. Principally, you are expected to pack sets of clothes, underwear and various body accessories.


- Bring toiletries. These items are basic objects for travelling. Bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, towels, shampoo, soap, perfumes and other items for personal and hygienic use.


- It is advisable to bring biscuits, noodles and canned goods to provide staple food during at least your initial few days or weeks in the host country. While you are still familiarizing yourself with the place, it will be better if you would have your own supplies so that you don’t starve yourself when you realise there isn’t anything you initially like.


- Bring cash. Take your ATM card or credit card so that in abrupt purchases, you will be able to pay for goods.

Is Studying Abroad an Expensive Affair?

Put another way, fish never know they are wet, because they lack the contrast of air. “ If you wish to share above thoughts, you have to persistently working for Scholarships and Financial Aid. Many students fail to pursue scholarships because they believe scholarship competition is so fierce that only the most exceptional students receive awards. The truth is you do not have to be a super student to win scholarships.



Is studying abroad an expensive affair? A myth surviving since a long time .But ironically, it may actually be cheaper to study abroad than it is our own country! Studying abroad need not be financially expensive. Attending a study abroad program is not necessarily anymore expensive than staying at your current university, and in some cases you may actually save money by studying abroad.



You must be willing to spend time and effort to check out the various financial resources. While the universities and colleges offer financial aid to international students in the form of awards, teaching and research assistantships and tuition waivers, there are other agencies and institutions that offer financial help too.
